MECU is a European network of four universities funded by Erasmus+ (KA220-HED-000467270) from 2026 to 2028. The aim of the project is to strengthen civic and intercultural competence through enhancing cultural heritage literacy. To this end, MECU 1) develops reusable teaching formats that link medieval sources to civic literacy skills, 2) deepens sustainable cooperation through joint curriculum design and shared standards, and 3) boosts media competence and resilience to manipulative uses of the medieval past in public discourse. MECU will implement a Train-the-Trainer workshop, three Summer Schools, and a digital knowledge base of medieval translations and hybrid public lectures with dissemination packages for wider audiences.
The MECU network consists of the University of Iceland (coordinating institution, Reykjavík, Iceland), Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), the Central European University (Vienna, Austria), and the University of Siena (Italy).
